Description
This locomotive belongs to a class of steam engines called "Northerns". Northerns had a reputation for being fast. The large "driver wheels" were over six feet in diameter which helped the engine reach speeds of up to 110 miles per hour. Only three other Union Pacific locomotives like this one are left...all in the US.
This engine was built in 1939 and retired in 1957. It now resides in Ogden, UT, where it once worked pulling passenger, mail, express, and high priority freight trains.
